Martha Stewart In Dubai

What? Martha Stewart is coming to Tavola at Mall of the Emirates?!! That's right! She may have been convicted of lying to investigators about a stock sale, but we are definitely telling the truth! Umm, actually, we'd actually have to see it to really believe it, and may even have to call Tavola to double check again just in case.

That said, if you're a MS fan, and would like to see her in person, this media guru will be launching and signing her new magazine on Saturday June the 18th at Tavola, Mall of the Emirates from 2pm to 3pm. We do recommend you get there a little bit earlier, because you know how manic these types of events can be!

Under The Shade

JJ Collection is all about how color and texture are combined to create a unique piece of art: chandelier shades. Add a couple of shades here and there et voila! An immediate transformation of the look and feel to any room. Not convinced? Try it for yourself.

A Legit Reason To Visit Amsterdam

Need an excuse to travel? Not really, but when you see the innovative effort Schiphol Airport (in Amsterdam) has put into the world's first airport park, you're going to think again about your travel route just to make sure you either transit via Schiphol or even make Amsterdam your final destination!

The park has an indoor as well as outdoor terrace for when the weather is fine. The indoor area of the park is designed to replicate the feeling of an outdoor space, with butterflies projected on to the walls and floors, and with sounds such as bicycle bells, animals and playing children filling the air. It includes ivy chairs for travelers to relax in, as well as a Park Café. You can also charge electronic devices such as laptops, and there is the option to charge mobile phones by pedaling one of the energy generating bicycles. Furthermore, to boost its eco-credentials, the airport uses LED lighting wherever possible, with natural light also entering the park through fiber optic cables and tube lighting.

This airport park takes pre-flight waiting to a whole new level...and you thought the ebook library at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport was cool?

Cyclehoops: Clever Bike Rack Concept

Do you think it's better to park 10 bicycles instead of a single car? Well, the designers and architects that came up with Cyclehoop’s Car-Shaped Bike Racks definitely do!

If you're going to promote the use of bicycles over vehicles, then this is definitely the way to do it! Check out these brightly colored racks that come in silver, pink and green. The hoops stand turns any street pole into a bike rack, which in turn can save city councils time and money. They also bring awareness and recognition to the benefits of bike riding over driving.

Prefer to drive than bike in the heat of the summer? Fine, but only as long as you bike during the other seasons!

    Soo Yoo Lym

Can you believe this is a painting? So Yoon Lym‘s collection of paintings called The Dreamtime features the unique art of hair braiding.

The Dreamtime is a reference to the pre-colonial Aboriginal Australian understanding of life and the particular viewpoints as understood by the dreamtime.  This could be regarded as a form of spirituality.  The dreamtime was an understanding of time and the creation of all things as told by myths about the continuum of past, present and future.  The aborigines believed in what the European coined, the dreamtime, which to the aborigines was an interconnected way of living on an earth that they believed was inhabited by the spirits of shared ancestors.

    Tweet Tweet

Twitter fans, you've gotta find a TweetingSeat for your next Tweet.  TweetingSeat was created by Product Designer Chris McNicholl and is an original interactive park bench. The concept aims at connecting the digital world with the physical seating-in-the-park experience. The bench logs its usage by uploading images of its users and environment to a live Twitter feed, allowing people to interact with it both in person and virtually.

Each time someone sits down, TweetingSeat uploads an image from two cameras to the Twitterfeed. One camera is located on the bench looking at the surrounding space, and another is located nearby looking at the people who use it.

    It's all in your hands

Attention! Creative minds of the UAE. If you have busy hands, a robust visual vocabulary, a tendency to imagine yourself in a vivid parallel universe or just the hankering to make funny shapes in shadow before turning out the lights at night, then you've got to join Movement UAE - a rare hybrid of performance arts piecing together its visual department, and opening its doors to Video Jockeys, editors, artists, filmmakers, sculptors, photographers, lomographers, and creative ideators in the UAE.

Not creative yet still want to lend a hand? Try Being Instrumental - with some out-of-the-box instruments being built for the choir, they're looking for everything from old unusable things like broken furniture, old toys, cycle wheels, static-y transistors, rat traps, old luggage, clocks, tumblers, empty paint cans...basically anything that makes interesting sounds, be it percussive or melodic that are collecting dust in your garage or on the top shelf of that cupboard. With a few nuts and bolts, your little contributions can help create substance out of scrap. So bring out those step ladders, rummage those closets and bring us the seemingly unusable.

    Join the Movement. April 13, 2011 - 19:30 to 21:30.
